Over the summer school officials met to review the mission statement of previous years and decided it was time for a change. Our previous mission statement was "The Mission of Charlotte Valley Central School District is to create a learning environment that challenges and motivates each student to become a self-sufficient, cooperative, responsible and attributing member of a global society while encouraging each to achieve his or her highest potential. " This was felt to be too long, busy, too much and not direct enough. So the officials worked together to create a new statement around the six core beliefs. Students first, trust, ownership, communication, collaboration, and growth mindset.

Teaching at Buckeye Elementary Developmental Preschool has had a forever and profound impact on my teaching career. While teaching for 3 ½ years there, I had the opportunity to learn new skills and strategies that have not only helped me in the classroom, but also outside of the school, as a parent. As a developmental preschool teacher, I learned new concepts, such as learning how to plan, write, create, prepare, and teaching students with Individualized Education Plans (IEP’s). Learning how to create an IEP took a lot of time to master, but once I learned the frame work, I was so glad that I had. The background knowledge, that I had learned was very helpful when it came time to become an advocate for my own child.

Teachers should help children learn to their best of their ability but also be flexible as no one knows what the future holds (Excellence). There is so much happening every moment. In today’s world, where a child’s innocence is so easily corrupted, I hope students can grow to become flowers among weeds, to use their own judgment and sense of self to know right from wrong and to do what is best for their future (Integrity & Respect). They should grow up having a feeling of worthiness and belongingness as an independent individual (Compassion).
