Discussion #1: Leading Organizational Change
Organizational change management has become a permanent feature of the 21st century business landscape, and it’s only through effective change management that an organization or industry can take advantage of the vast new markets, innovative technologies and vast labor pools (Weiss, 2012). For this discussion I have chosen the chain bookstore, Polare, which was declared officially bankrupt in 2014. It was created following the merger of Selexyz (formerly known as Boekhandels Groep Nederland/BGN) and De Slegte chains. Even though Polare’s bookstores are still open, poor leadership has been blamed for the failure by the bookstore’s management to adapt to the currently changing marketplace. Step 3: To form strategic vision and initiatives, I would develop a brief summary of what I expect of the organizational change.
Step 4: I would talk more often about the need for the change so as to communicate the vision of the bookstore.
Step 5: There are so many barriers that thwart organizational change at Polare, such as competition, poor staffing strategies and financial instabilities. Nevertheless, I would remove these obstacles by changing its organizational structure, hiring people who’re flexible to change, as well as by eliminating outdated organizational policies that don’t support the bookstore’s financial success.
Step 6: To create short-term wins, I would look for surefire projects related to organizational change in order to win the support of my critics.
Step 7: To sustain the change, I would hire and promote employees who demonstrate massive potential to reinvigorate the change process by supporting the implementation of Polare’s new
