Lessons from the Course with Regard to Health and Wellness Synthesize an overview of what you have learned from the course with regard to health and wellness. How do the various aspects of wellness influence one another? How do different disciplines approach the study of wellness with respect to the individual and society? How are you going to implement what you have learned in this course and used in your presentation in your own life (work, church, school, etc.)? Having undertaken the course on Wellness over the course of the semester, I acknowledge that I have learned much about health and wellness. Essentially, the most important lesson that I have gained from the course is that health and wellness are two distinct aspects. Earlier, I perceived that health and wellness are the same, but I now understand that they differ to a vast extent. To begin with is health. My new understanding of health is that it is a state of complete well-being including psychological, spiritual, physical, intellectual, social, and environmental dimensions (Edlin & Golanty, 2012). Earlier, I thought that health was the absence of diseases, infirmity, and symptoms. In contrast is wellness. The course has allowed me to see that dimensions are all intertwined. Having a low level of one of the dimensions could affect all other aspects in a negative way (Granello, 2013). Also notable is that I learned that different disciplines have different perspectives on wellness and how it is evaluated. For example, psychology as a discipline evaluates wellness based on the mental health of an individual. In contrast, sociology as a discipline evaluates wellness based on a person’s place in the society, how the society influences a person, and how a person subsequently impacts the
