My Leadership Philosophy

To me, leadership includes all the aspects of being able to demonstrate, instruct, or show examples of how something should be done in the most effective way. A leader in most, if not all cases, should be goal-oriented, respectful, responsible, and last but not least, approachable. Since arriving here at East Carolina University, I must say that I have seen a tremendous amount of progress when it comes to the leadership that I see in myself. For example, when I made my first friend group, I was the one who suggested that we start getting involved on campus and try to join some organizations because we would always be bored and needed something constructive to do at times. I believe this organization brought me out of my shell and sort of forced the task of being or becoming a leader on me to the point where I had no choice but to learn. I was instantly placed in executive board positions and chair positions of different committees within the organization. This was a positive thing for me as it caused me to dig deep inside myself and bring out the leader that I knew was inside. I came to realize that people all learn in different ways, they all communicate in different ways, and some things are not taken the same amongst all people. Pretty much, I had to learn to be able to consider the perspective of the people I worked with and try to make sure that anything didn’t make them uncomfortable or upset. This was another lesson that came along with learning how to lead effectively. I learned that if you are a leader, you must always be committed to keeping the people you work with or around happy and on a level ground. Without your team being able to actually enjoy what they are doing and be willing to conform and help one another, your project or task more than likely will fail. In order to succeed in your endeavors, your subordinates must be engaged, interactive, and supportive. They have to see the bigger picture behind what you all are trying to accomplish and be able to chase after this goal while also pushing one another to be the best they can be. If the leader establishes this early and is sure that his/her team is all on the same page and ready, the success of the team should fall into
