Easily the best course of action would be to not consume any genetically modified foods. We as consumers have choices; we can take the organic route and eat foods that are naturally grown. The only winners here are the companies by helping them save them money needed to spend on pesticides. Evidently the FDA is not on our side as they do not force these companies to label GMOs used in their products. GMO’s have not been proven to be completely safe. Long term health risks on humans have not been investigated adequately with thorough studies. Once people realize what is in their food, they can make the informed choice to avoid the potential health hazards of GMOs until more research on their effects at a long-term level can be conducted. Progressively more individuals have been becoming more responsible for their health by choosing to not partake in the GMO experiment. The alternative of going organic provides for a variety of health benefits. Studies suggest that organic foods contain antioxidants, which is one significant nutrient their GMO counterparts lack. In addition, individuals with allergies to foods, chemicals, or preservatives discover that their symptoms minimize or go away entirely when consuming organic foods, merely one of the benefits GMOs cannot deliver. Furthermore, these chemicals are used extensively in everyday agriculture which leaves residues in or on the foods we eat. Many countries around the world have already taken the initiative to harvest crops without the use of GMOs. The debate in regards to the effects of GMOs on health, the environment, and whether genetically modified products should be labeled continues to be a controversial one.
