Personal Narrative: My Experiences As A WEB Leader

Over the years, I have grown as a person; I have improved as a leader, in character, and in helping my community. There have been many people and occasions that have influenced me in becoming a better person and I plan on continuing to improve.
I portray leadership characteristics through the many experiences I have taken a part in; for example, I was a WEB leader when I was in middle school, a member of NJHS, and I am currently a member of STUCO. When I was in middle school, I thought the idea of helping new 6th graders learn about their new school would be a great opportunity for me and would help make their experience even better. Since the beginning of high school, I have joined many after school activities, including Students Against Destructive Decisions, SADD. Being a member of SADD has had a great effect on my life. I have gone to meetings where people have told their personal story about going through a hard time, whether that was because of substance abuse or other destructive decisions. These stories have made me realize the destructiveness of one bad choice; being a member of SADD allows me to bring awareness to these issues and support others who need help. My great sense of character also comes from being on a basketball team throughout most of my life, where everyone has to cooperate and respect each and every player on it. This means working together, encouraging one another, and helping each other improve, rather than focusing on being the best player. Being on a team also requires listening and talking to others; if no one communicated, there would be no success. Also, last summer, I helped Eureka Basketball with the children’s basketball camp; I set an example for the kids, meaning I demonstrated certain drills and how to work with other players. This shows that I have character because I want to help other players grow and become better as a player, a teammate, and person. Having the chance to help someone get through a difficult time in their life or be a better teammate shows I have great character because I think of the well-being of others
