A manager, a president, and a teacher, they are positions in the real world that require leadership, however a leader is not defined by their position. A true leader will make sacrifices for people, guiding them to see their true selves and the light within them. People who flaunt their power and abilities are not leaders. Leaders want nothing more than to push others forward and make them stand on their own. Being forceful and demanding is not the correct method to guide and encourage another. A leader such as Larry Garfield believes that, “Leadership is about three things: To listen, to inspire, and to empower,” and a leader who has a keen understanding of these three principles will be someone who has the power to change someone’s life. …show more content…

A force to push the individual would be a leadership presence, except the leader should not be commanding and controlling otherwise the purpose to empower the individual is defeated. Full commitment is required from the leader if they want to effectively empower and change others. Rather than commanding, the leader should try various methods such as continuously encouraging and motivating an individual to reach their goal, which is another component of leadership skills. For a leader to empower others, the leader should learn and understand the individual’s visions and goals. If one does not have a goal in mind, then the motivation from within would be difficult to draw out and giving up quickly becomes an option. Providing assistance and advice to empower and set the individual on the right path again is the leader’s role at this point. Trust, cooperation, communication, and respect must coexist within a relationship between a leader and individual. The elements are what will drive the motivation and path of an individual, and the relationship with their leader. An open minded person with charisma is someone who will lead others in a confident manner. Integrity is an essential key to being a leader, because if a leader is constantly lying about theirself and their group, a united team will never emerge and the leader will lose their credibility. For a leader the present result is never perfect, always searching for areas to improve, a leader will be proactive always giving their best effort. The road to success is never a smooth sailing path, even for a leader. When an obstacle comes towards a leader, never will they give up, and although the situation may become uncomfortable, the leader does not
