Dear Members of the Selection Committee for the Doctor of Philosophy Program in Biomedical Engineering,

My interest in applying to the Doctor of Philosophy in Biomedical Engineering Program at The Ohio State University stems for four reasons. The first appeal is the excellence of the Biomedical Engineering Program at the university. As I want to ensure that I will be prepared both conceptually and practically to perform biomedical research, I have sought academic rigor throughout my life, a desire that led me to pursue an Associate’s Degree while in high school. As such, the strength of the Biomedical Engineering program at The Ohio State University, which is ranked in the top 50, is highly appealing to me.

The second reason pertains to the university, in that, The Ohio State University has maintained a reputation for drawing high-quality students in all disciplines at all levels of education. Over the course of my academic career, I have found the individuals with whom I interact are just as valuable to my learning as the professors. This value was particularly evidenced in my experience in Quantitative Physiology, during which I worked on the coursework with multiple colleagues as we sought to understand the material sufficiently. As an individual seeking to be well-rounded academically, and thereby become a more effective biomedical researcher, I yearn to pursue my education at an institution that is likewise well-rounded academically. The Ohio State University, with 44 programs and specialties in its graduate education being ranked in the top 40 nationally, has evidenced that it is a very well rounded university, and thus one at which I seek the opportunity to
