Communities don’t grow independently, and it takes collaboration and passion to truly cultivate one that is both diverse and open. Participation in sports have taught me the fundamental principle that helping others will always help you grow in one way or another. For instance, in soccer, collaboration between teammates strengthens not only the team’s likelihood to win, but it intensifies their chemistry and bond as well. Thus, through applying this moral to my own life, I’ve taken initiative in school by helping struggling peers both spiritually and academically. I especially hope to be able to participate in an International Service Project. With no irrational restrictions, I aim to measure how much of a difference I can make in a foreign community (e.g. combating illness, feeding the needy, empowering community bonds, teaching students, etc.), and I hope it will provide me with a more worldly and realistic view on life. Furthermore, with 3 years experience in speaking Spanish and the ability to speak fluent Mandarin, my lingual dexterity will be put to the test, but they’ll still provide useful assets throughout the experience. In trips to the urban subways of Manhattan, it’s never been easy to simply deny the existence of innocent beggars, but my parents’ protective precaution for potential harm always prevailed. Moreover, limitations aside, with a true objective to help rather than ignore those in need, my undeniable urge to help will finally be fulfilled. On the contrary, whether it is through restoring nature or spreading knowledge, I unequivocally trust that, personal growth aside, I will be able to ultimately give back to the world and, essentially, Hotchkiss. Thus, I plan to make the most of Hotchkiss’ unique travel abroad
