Personal Statement: A Leadership Analysis

I have been fortunate in my career to have earned leadership roles at several organizations. I worked as a Systems Engineering Manager for a subsidiary of a Fortune 500 company, held technical lead positions at two global information security consulting firms, and currently serve as the Practice Leader and Principal Consultant of a successful information security services practice. In this essay, I will discuss the leadership qualities that I value most and describe how I have endeavored to demonstrate these attributes in my current position.

Effective leaders lead by example and inspire behavior with their daily actions. I frequently set personal goals that I strive to accomplish in the workplace. A true team collaborates in common purpose to maximize the strengths and minimize the weaknesses of the individual members. In building our team, I have taken several initiatives to foster this cooperation. I am open with the team in sharing information such as revenue targets, sales progress, and challenges or issues concerning the practice. By keeping everyone informed, we are united in our goals and each able to contribute to achieving our shared objectives. I have implemented technology solutions to facilitate teamwork, such as company provided mobile devices with unlimited data/voice plans and a Jabber server to promote better team communication through instant messaging. I schedule weekly team meetings to share information and to discuss, as a group, the challenging problems and innovative solutions of our individual projects.
