As a teacher, I believe it is critical for me to know my students and how they learn in order to create a learner-centered environment. It is my responsibility to get to know my students as individuals in order to acquire knowledge and understanding of their interests, learning styles, backgrounds, abilities and needs. Acquiring this deep understanding would maximise the learning experiences and outcomes of all students by creating a respectful and safe environment, whereby all students develop a positive relationship with the teacher and their peers. Using Backwards mapping, I would review what students have learnt and what standards they are expected to meet by the end of the year. I would identify the outcomes and results students are to achieve during the prospective unit, followed by creating assessment strategies used to measure student outcomes. I would then create a series of lessons and resources that are engaging, relevant and significant to the students. This planning would consider a variety of teaching and learning strategies, activities, literacy, numeracy, ICT, inclusive differentiation and pedagogical approaches to make sure that all students’ needs are met and that they are being challenged in their learning. All lessons and resources would provide students will the key concepts and skills needed to complete assessments and meet the syllabus outcomes. I would then determine the formative-assessment strategies that will be used to check for understanding and progress over the duration of the unit, these formative-assessment strategies would differ to meet individual learning styles, needs, and abilities and to assess student understanding and progress and provide students with feedback. I would review and reflect on the unit to determine if it will likely achieve the desired learning goal and ask for feedback from my colleges. These assessment strategies along with informal strategies would allow me to reflect on the learning of my students and adjust future lessons accordingly. By marking assessments, viewing results and listening to student feedback, I would be able to determine if my teaching was of the unit allowed students to successfully meet the outcomes and develop skills and knowledge in the area
