“The goal of nursing is to put the patient in the best condition for nature to act upon him, primarily by altering the environment”, by Florence Nightingale in 1859 expresses what nursing means to me. I worked in the social sector for more than 10 years. I liked the job because it allowed me to help people. My work required me to interact with some of the best obstetricians, gynecologists and nurses in India. During my job and worked with health care providers has reinforced my belief that nursing is a suitable profession for me. During my parents sickness I got a chance to understand this profession closely. I saw nurses not only provide physical care, they also serving as patients’ advocate when they need it. I have observed nurses provide emotional support through counseling to both their patients and patients’ families. They also offer information regarding community resources. The projects and initiatives that I was a part of had been satisfying because I contributed meaningfully to the community. I think that nurses experience the same feeling. A career in nursing not only provides diverse opportunities, the flexibility also allow me to take care of my family and 3 year old son at the same time. It will allow me to develop as a human being and have the legacy of caring for others. I will bring added value to my community, be more aware of my own health. When I explored my passions and imagined where I would be most effective it wasn't hard to decide what path to follow. I was personally very involved with the care of my father who passed away due to cancer in 1999. I was the one to work with the doctors and nurses in the hospital during his illness. Since then I cared for my mother who lived with me but unfortunately she was also became sick with pancreatic cancer and died in 2009. Again I was the one to work with the doctors and nurses to make sure she got the best
