I have always been a good student in school, and over the past twelve years of my schooling, I’ve learned a great deal of academic information. Even so, there are some lessons that the classroom can't teach. In order to become a well rounded, impactful citizen, people must gain real world experiences that define their characters. To do that, I have been fortunate enough to have many opportunities to learn more about myself, become a leader, and help others. Throughout my time in high school I have taken a part in various extra curricular activities, been in leadership positions, and given back to my community through service. In it, I engage in a variety of activities that focus on strengthening my faith, serving, and fellowshipping with others. My Christianity has always played a big part in shaping my life and the decisions that I make, so joining youth group was a natural choice to continue that. Within my school, I am a member of Wadsworth High School’s chapter of the National Honor’s Society. This organization provides me with the capacity to give back and do things to aid others, including serving at blood drives, organizing coat drives, and doing Adopt-A-Family for Christmastime. In addition, I have been a part of my school’s Speech and Debate team for all four years of high school. First, I have been an officer on my Speech and Debate team for the past two years, and currently, I am serving as Vice President. This position increases the immense time spent with the team and the responsibilities that are associated with speech. I am responsible for aiding in decision making for the team and planning events during meetings held with other team officers. In addition, this role means that I have to communicate with and lead the entire team. I help with peer coaching and try to get to know everyone on the team, even those outside my normal group of friends because in order to fully know what the team needs, it is crucial to know the team fully. I take my position seriously, and aim to increase the efficiency, communication, and success of my team with the influence that my position holds. Another capacity with which I use my leadership abilities is being a H.U.D.D.L.E. leader. H.U.D.D.L.E. is an organization that aims to instill leadership, positive decision making and staying drug free in youth. Every month, I visit a class of sixth graders to lead and teach them lessons that will educate and challenge them. The influence that I have over the children in my class is huge. When I was their age, I wanted to be just like the older teenagers I knew, and I looked to their every move as an example for my life.
