My interest in pharmacy grew from my interest in science subjects, and further developed following a work shadowing placement at a local pharmacy, where I saw how the supply of medicine to patients could have such a direct and positive effect on their health and lifestyle. I am interested in the Masters of Pharmacy Programme because of the various modules on which it is based and the way it will allow me to extend my knowledge in Medicine, as I find their manufacture and administration fascinating. The world is getting more interconnected, with diseases everywhere spreading around the globe, creating new needs to control and fight them with new medicine. An MPharm degree would give me a range of career options in this field.
I am currently in the second year of my A levels, studying Biology, Chemistry and Business Studies. A-level biology allows me to see how the body works and the ways that medicines affect it; since biology is the study of all living things it gives me insight to how the body absorbs the medicines and how these change the body. As I was on the till for part of each day I had to interact with any customer that walked through the door, helping to develop my people skills and act as the professional face of the business. By the second day I was very confident and could interact fluently. I also had to follow instructions from other colleagues, showing that I can work under a higher authority as well as acting on my own initiative. Last but not least I had to give out the correct medicine to the correct customers, checking they were confident with the instructions on how to take them. This was the best part of my experience, knowing I was helping people get better and back to their normal self, reaffirming my desire for a pharmaceutical
