GSSM is renowned high school and offers many unique opportunities to its students. These opportunities have drawn me to apply because I feel that I could use them to expand my academic interests. There are three major opportunities that have drawn me: the summer research program, the plethora of computer science classes, and the community surrounding the school.
The first time I heard about the summer research program my first thought was those kids are insane for giving up their summers to do grunt work in a lab. Then, when I learned more about what it actually entailed, my next thought became how can I ensure that I am one of the people who gets to do that. I realized that through this program, I could expand my interest and try out a new field of study of which I had not been previously aware. Also, I could get real experience working in a lab. That experience could show me what it actually entails to work in a lab. However, it was not until the summer after my eighth grade year that I truly began to love it. That summer, I took a program at the local university about computer science. Throughout the week we worked and developed our first game. Once I saw what I could do, I knew that that was what I wanted to do for my career. I began to research and learn how to code online. Through this, I learned how to code html, c++, and many other programs. When I learned about how GSSM had a multitude of computer courses, I knew that I had to get into that school. My school offers some computer classes, but not to the degree that Gssm does. So, I wanted to make sure I had access to those classes to improve my knowledge of code. Because I wanted to go to the school, I researched more about it. After learning more about the school, I read about the community, and fell in love with it as
