I’m most proud of my two terms as ASB Director of Communications, the student spokesperson for the ASB and faculty. The job demands proficiency in graphic design, public speaking, and time management; responsibilities include creating posters, broadcasting PSAs, commentating class competitions, and sending weekly emails to an audience of 1600 students. I’ve led two ASB committees to coordinate our school’s Stanford Blood Drive and FairTrade Initiative. I’m also the go-to guy who answers all students’ general questions. How many times a week does an email from a complete stranger pop up in the inbox?
I believe the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Science, and the Arts is the right place to continue my studies, because I love how the classes are based on the U of A academic system and that ASMSA offers an opportunity to obtain advanced college level knowledge before high school graduation. That being said, ASMSA still has a college life atmosphere which I think prepares the students to be more adjusted to what real college will be like. I also enjoy the fact that your professors are eager to help at almost any given time. On top of that, ASMSA will teach me viable skills like researching skills, time management skills, and self-discipline, also it will give me the great privilege of graduating with at least 30 concurrent hours which will
I believe ASMSA is the right place for me to continue my studies. ASMSA will offer me many challenges that I am excited to overcome. I do not feel like I am challenged enough, so I will be looking forward to having these challenges. Also, I believe that ASMSA will provide me an environment that will be beneficial not only to my educational performance but also my life beyond High School. I believe that ASMSA will prepare me for college, as well as assist me in harnessing my skills and utilizing my interests so that I will lead a successful and happy life.
At my school, I joined leadership to become closer to my community; setting up school dances, cross-grade events, fundraisers, and more; all run by leadership members! Through leadership, I was able to experience many things! One experience that I had during leadership was the opportunity to run a cross-grade event! During Kindness Week -a week where Crestwood staff and students show kindness to everyone around the community - come together to create cards for the Crestwood community.
Alabama School of Mathematics and Science is a riveting high school that I would love to become a student of. I believe that I deserve an opportunity to enroll because I wish to prepare for my future as best as I can, I have an interest in the school’s courses and activities, and ASMS provides a better learning experience than my current school. I know that ASMS would greatly prepare me for my future. I wish to attend college and medical school to become a psychiatrist, and ASMS would ready me for the hardships of both. It would also give me the chance to explore my options to see if that really is the path I wish to follow for my career.
For example, one of the leadership positions I hold is Boy Scout Chaplain where I am in charge of all religious activities for my troop (Troop 197). This activity is very malleable and what is done is completely up to the Chaplain. For instance, if I wanted to teach a sermon or do a prayer at mealtimes that is completely under my control. This may show you that this is a huge responsibility and I must make sure that I don't become non-complacent and stop performing my duties. Another of my many positions is in my local church Lake of the Woods Church.
One leadership experience I had was through my athletics at my high school. Every year, our high school volleyball program hosts a camp for young girls to come learn and develop her volleyball skills, as well as do arts and crafts and make new friends. As a varsity player, we all were assigned a different group of girls to be in charge of. We also were given a junior varsity player to help us. I became a leader in this area because I was more experinced and organized.
In recent summers, I taught Sunday School classes for preschoolers, and I helped kids in English as a Second Language classes. These two positions have prepared me to act as a leader in the school and in the community. After teaching Sunday School, I learned to how to expand the perspective of others, not just my own. The kids and I worked to make sense of Bible stories so that they could apply the stories to their lives. Honestly, the preschool kids taught me some values that they think are important, and many of them have changed how I think about others.
Personal Statement Describe an example of your leadership experience in which you have positively influenced others, helped resolved disputes, or contributed to group efforts over time? A leadership role I’ve taken on before is link crew. Link Crew is a mixed group of juniors and seniors mentoring freshman's through there whole freshman year and also making sure they have a great first high school experience. Link crew also helps our freshman’s stay on the right path.
By volunteering at my local church and helping with local service projects, I have realized the commitment and perseverance it takes to lead by example. At my local church I continue to help with the organization of my youth group. After speaking at church staff meetings for several months we made it our goal to improve the youth group by ensuring that children and teens of all ages were included and had an opportunity to participate. I was able to create a system where teens who attended high school were paired with a middle school individual of the church. This provided a sense of inclusiveness and made the youth group more enjoyable for everyone.
ASMSA is the right place for me. If I am invited to attend ASMSA, I will be living, studying, and working with students from across Arkansas with different backgrounds that have interests and hobbies similar to my own. I will be taking accelerated courses provided by outstanding teachers at one of the nation’s top schools, and many of these courses align perfectly with my interests and career prospects. I will also have a new community of learning that I will be able to contribute to in multiple ways. The first reason ASMSA is the place for me to live, study, and work at is the community and environment.
One leadership role I currently have is a teacher assistant for 3&4-year-olds. As a teacher assistant in the 3&4-year-old Sunday school classroom, I have many responsibilities. My roles include checking kids in, implementing curriculum, organizing activities, and helping kids with a craft. During my time in the classroom, I work with whole groups, small groups, and individuals. My goal is to help all the kids to become good leaders and role models.
I have attended several leadership camps and seminars, but there is always room for improvement in regards to leadership abilities. Having a higher leadership role than what I already have will significantly improve my knowledge of leadership and better refine the leadership skills that I already have. There are a lot of
As a seventh grader I attended a three day overnight event known as June Jam. Little did I know this camp would help me to discover my passion and change my life. This camp introduced me to drug and alcohol abuse prevention. I left this camp inspired to make a change. I joined high school STOP as a freshman and I immediately started to get involved.
Because my faith has given so much to me, I wanted to give back. I applied to be a confirmation leader so I could help younger teens have an amazing experience as I did. I was selected as a "peer minister" for the incoming confirmandi, which was a great honor for me. I have helped many teens work through a variety of challenges including family struggles, battles with drugs and alcohol, decisions to remain abstinent and almost everything in between. In mentoring the students, I have learned more than I ever expected.
