Have you ever been the guinea pig when something new is being testing This happens to animals when new medicines are being tested. My topic is animal testing for medicine. This means that animals receive medication before humans can have it. This is done to make sure that the medication is safe. This is topic that has been debated for decades. People debate over whether the medical advancements are worth the price of animals suffering. “People debate that animals do not deserve to suffer. Most animals were not in fatal pain (Animal Experimentation). I support animals testing because without using animals medical advancements would slow down. Animals testing is good and at the time technology is not well enough developed to replace animals. …show more content…
Right now computer models are used to confirm what researchers know from testing on animals. Researchers are required to explore new options to replace animal testing. Section 2.31 of the Animal Welfare Regulation says, “Replacements to animal research must be used whenever possible,” (AWR). This means that computers aren’t good enough to replace animals because animals are still used in most labs. In 2007, BBC News reported the world’s fastest supercomputer could simulate half of a mouse’s brain in ten seconds but could only record one second in that time. This means if scientist wanted to simulate only half of a mouse’s brain, and needed one day of data the simulation would take ten days. Because simulations take a long time they are not the best choice. Also, because the price of the powerful computers are so high, labs will not be able to afford them. More computing power would also be needed to simulate multiple animals at the same time. This would take much longer than using live animals. While labs are finding new ways to replace animal testing many animal rights activists would rather have the longer
