How often does the average person report about animal abuse? Why would someone abuse their animals that they take care of? Over 23 million people in the United States are pet owners. (Pet by the Numbers). “It's estimated that 78 million dogs and 85.8 million cats are owned in the United States” (Pet Statistics). With having about 163 million dogs and cats in the United States, means that every ten second an animal is getting abused (Pet Statistics). But, there are more animals that are considered pets besides dogs and cats. There are birds, rabbits, fish, and so much more. Believe it or not, not every single animal is treated the right way. There are multiple others options besides having to test on animals. There are in vitro, research with human volunteers, and human patient simulators.
In vitro, uses advanced computer techniques, one of the techniques are called organs chips. Organ chips have real human cells that were grown represent the structure and function of human organs and organ systems. “These chips can be used instead of animals in disease research, drug testing, and toxicity testing and have been shown to replicate human physiology, diseases, and drug responses more accurately than crude animal experiments do” (Alternatives to Animal Testing).
Research with human volunteers is another way to replace animal testing.
