Same-sex marriage and gay rights are hot-button issues for our generation, and it’s important to make our voices heard. Great progress has been made towards equal rights for homosexuals in the past century. However, in most countries of the world and even in many states in the US, homosexuals continue to lack equal rights and status. In many places, homosexuals may not marry or adopt children, and most religious groups of Christians, catholics, and jews still protest against homosexuality. The Gay Rights movement has a lot of popular support, much from the younger, less conservative generation who were brought up to accept and respect the differences in others, not to judge or degrade someone because of their beliefs or preferences; we have been raised to be tolerant and accepting. …show more content…
Up until very recently interracial marriage was also seen as a frown upon practice but we have now grown to accept this as a common practice. Many things in our past have proven that we may not be forthcoming to change, but we are accepting and continue to adapt to modern ideals. Until relatively recently, slavery, the exploitation of workers, and the lack of rights to own land for certain groups were accepted by many. The denial of rights to women was a very common traditional situation, and still is in parts of this "modern" world. However, improving human rights and incorporating new societies and ideologies, and therefore destroying the old traditions, have consistently allowed us to become more "civilized." These changes must be understood and put into effect to create a completely modern
