As claimed by the constitution, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness are unalienable rights, also known as “God given rights”, meaning rights that cannot be taken away or tampered with. Throughout the years natural rights have been interpreted in many different ways in various states. As individuals it is mandatory for these rights to be respected and followed. Many people have experienced the denial of rights, but homosexuals have experienced the denial of their unalienable rights on a daily basis. They have experienced the denial of jobs based on their sexual preference, and have been denied adoption rights. Heterosexual couples have broad options on how to create a family of their own, but adoption is the only way for homosexual couples to form a family. Homosexual couples face a much difficult time going through the adoption process than heterosexual couples do. Adoption in general is a very lengthy and difficult process, but couples who meet certain requirements become eligible and the process becomes easier. On the other hand, homosexual couples hardly become eligible or are not taken into consideration for the adoption process. There are also many states that do not grant the adoption right to homosexual couples. “Some states have taken up legislation that would allow taxpayer-funded contractors that oversee state adoptions to refuse to let gay or lesbian individuals adopt children if it conflicts with the organization’s religious beliefs. Michigan passed such a law right before the court decision.” (Beitsch, Rebecca). The denial of these adoption rights violates an individual’s constitutional rights which in turn do not make homosexuality
