Marijuana is illegal because of misunderstanding by the average person. Marijuana in today’s era is becoming legal by states very rapidly. The first two states too legalize the plant cannabis, were Colorado and Washington. Just recently we had Alaska and Oregon legalize marijuana as well. The law I would like to see pass would be that marijuana could be purchasable for non-medical uses, but only two ounces could be purchased or carried by one person and they would have to be considered an adult by the state. The law would only allow six cannabis plants to be grown by each household any more would be a punishment. Marijuana was illegalized wrongfully; the government gives negative propaganda about marijuana, saying that it makes oneself crazy. This is something that has already been researched and proven wrong. A research done by the University of London, which analyzed 3,000 subjects who had their IQ taken at age of eight and later at age of fifteen, found no relationship between cannabis uses. Legalizing the cannabis plant has benefits to the economy along with peoples’ health. If we allowed farmers to grow hemp, it would substantially help out our economy. Hemp is a very fast and easy-growing plant, it takes less than half the time it does to grow cotton and it’s about ten times stronger than cotton. Before the cannabis plant was made illegal in the United States, many farmers and the economy used to benefit from it. Taxes that you pay for tobacco or booze would also be applied to marijuana. This would substantially grow the United States economy. So far in Colorado and Washington D.C., marijuana has been legalized and it hasn’t done anything but improve their economy.
