Texting and driving is very common with teens and even adults. It is unquestionably dangerous because it distracts the driver, causing them to miss at least five seconds each time to look at their phone. Therefore, there are about 3,000 or more deaths of teens who are texting and driving each year. Even if you’re a first class driver, texting and driving causes many, many deaths, killing the driver and most of the passengers inside the vehicle. It may be tempting to look at your phone while in the car, but if you turn your phone off when you drive you won’t be as distracted. Some people commented on a website that they can hold their phone up by the steering wheel for “better visibility”, but I still don’t think people want to have a sad and memorable funeral for the victims of a car crash. Even if it’s a petite text like: “K”, you can still end up crashing. A fact I found was that some people believe it is okay to text at a stop sign or light, but then you don’t know when the light turns a brilliant green and someone might end up crashing into your bumper because they thought you were going to go. On a website I found, Virginia Tech mentioned that the driver is on their phone more often when they are alone. They wrote that 95% of teens read messages alone while only 32% read their messages with others in the car. Ninety percent of young adults post when alone and only 29% do with others present, 75% watch videos when alone and 45% do so with passengers. I also read that 50% of those teenagers admit to texting and driving. It is actually splendid that those teens would admit to texting and driving even if it is only half, but it doesn’t make it right at all. I whole-heartedly disagree with texting and driving and believe that in every state there should be a law that states you can’t text and drive. If you are seen texting and driving you will be fined. Hopefully in the future there will be a law against texting and
