As he drives down the highway he hears a buzz from the center console he looks and his received a text message. He grabs his phone and responds to the message and as soon as he is about to hit send, a car swerved into his lane and collides with him and demolishes his car. Later he wakes up and the ambulance and cops are here and he gets the help he needs and see the wreckage around him; he is horrified that because of that single message all this happened. According to some, the use of cell phones are ok while driving to keep up with family and things. However, there are studies showing that using cell phones while driving can increase the risk of a crash by twenty plus times. People need to stop texting and driving. Because “A 2011 survey by the AAA Foundation for Traffic Safety found that 71 percent of respondents considered it unacceptable for drivers to hold and talk on their cellphones, and 58 percent considered themselves seriously threatened by other cell phone-using drivers” (Hosansky). With this data it shows that over fifty percent of all people that took part in this survey felt like they were either seriously in danger from cell phones or that they just did not feel safe because of someone on their phone. this number too high for everyday driving it should be under fifty percent. If someone is on their cell phone while they are driving makes it so it is not just that driver it makes it so that everyone around the user is now in danger because of one person not paying attention. This brings to the point that When you are driving and send a text the user increases his chance by 23% and if the user is going 55 MPH and sends a text they are driving about a whole football field without looking (Hosansky). This is significant because with cell phones being used while driving made it twenty three plus times more dangerous for the user everyone around him. Imagine trying to drive down the road for the length of a football field blindfolded, that is what happens every time the driver sends a text. These are the dangers of texting and driving that can cause someone's life to be harmed forever. This is why cellphones are dangerous and should be regulated more for the safety of the driver and everyone around
