As my practicum experience started to come to an end I decided to focus on staff development, resource management, and budgeting. I chose to focus on staff development because this is an area which really interests me. Educating your staff in new techniques to assist students is a key aspect of being an administrator. Facilities management is a key aspect to student safety and success. Furthermore, it is the responsibility of the administrator to ensure the safety of all students and staff. To help better understand the role custodians play on a campus I secured an interview with a head custodian. We created new strategies to decrease distractions in the classroom. Student engagement was the largest issue we discussed in our meeting. We concluded when students are given engaging lessons behavior issues will decrease. Working with staff and creating new strategies is key in staff development. Staff members need to be unbiased when it comes to new ideas. Every teacher I worked with was open to new ideas and shared their stories of success in the classroom. I shared my thoughts of how we can improve our campus vision and improve behaviors in the classroom. A proper budget facilitates financial revenues and other school resources. A budget is the basis for accounting for funds spent to achieve educational objectives. I was not able to help with the schools’ budget, but I did have the opportunity helping create the budget for my department. I created an elaborate budget based on the needs of the department. Each grade level filled out a form based on their needs to assist students for the upcoming year. After I received the online forms I checked multiple vendors and then placed the orders. Budgeting allows you to create a plan for the schools’ funding, it ensures principals will always have enough money for the needs of students.
