Animal testing has lead to countless scientific advancements and saved millions of lives. Many people have very different viewpoints on this topic that continues to be debated today. Some say that animal testing is cruel, inhumane, and ineffective while others say that it is humane and advances the medical field greatly. Animal testing should continue as is because of its educational and safety benefits.
The first argument for animal testing is that it that scientists can learn so much from it and make crucial advancements in many fields. For instance, “Animal research has played a vital role in virtually every major medical advance of the last century” (Trull). As a matter of fact, some of these advancements have been in the fields of chemotherapy and dialysis, which alone have been enormous feats in the medical field. Furthermore, animal testing is supported by the majority of scientists proving its validity, according to the American Medical Association, 97% of physicians support the use of animals in research.
