In the world of law enforcement, there are known increased exposure to dangerous situations. As a police officer, I have an increased exposure to criminals on a daily basis throughout my assigned shift. I rely on my training when faced with a situation where those levels of danger increase. In addition, I wear a kevlar vest to protect my major organs in the event of a shooting, I practice weapon retention, draw, as well as target practice for instances when I may need to use or protect my firearm in the event of an altercation. In order to reduce the level of danger, I would need to leave law enforcement. This is not a practical or workable situation at this point in my life. I have devoted ten years of my life to law enforcement plus additional years prior to obtaining my associates degree and attending the police academy. I am now continuing my education in criminal justice to further my career in law enforcement.
When I am off duty on my own time I avoid areas I know to be more dangerous or those more prone for having local criminal frequent. I carry an off duty firearm on my person at all times when off duty. This is to protect myself as well as others should the need arise where action

It would impractical to stop driving a vehicle, I drive a vehicle for a living as a police officer. The City of Morristown is not an extremely large city, consequently, it would be impossible to travel the city by any other means in response to calls for assistance from the public. It is imperative to always drive within your ability, meaning no faster than you can safely maintain control of your vehicle while exercising due care for other motorist and pedestrians.
