Since I was a little kid, I have always had my mind set on being a teacher. Throughout school there have been many teachers that I consider role models and some who have pushed me in the direction of teaching. As I got older, I have discovered the reason why I want to be a teacher rather than the answer I used to give when I was a kid “I like to work with kids”. Teaching to me now is much more than enjoying working with kids. It is about inspiring students and getting them excited about learning. I want to be a teacher that sets goals for their students to achieve. I want to show students that those goals and any goals they set can be in reach and accomplished if they set their mind to it and work hard. When teaching a lesson and a teacher is explaining a concept and a student gets all excited about “getting it” is amazing. It instantly puts a smile on my face and makes me just as excited if not more excited for them. To me, it shows that their minds are turning and grasping the information that I am teaching them. It is also a great feeling for me, knowing that I am teaching and making connections with my students. Every student learns different and I want to be a teacher that can reach every student in the classroom. I want to reach students that are too nervous or scared to speak up because I was once that student in the classroom. I felt intimidated or that everyone else was going to laugh at my answer or the question I wanted to ask. I want to give those students the extra encouragement and push them to be active students in the classroom because I want my learning environment to be comfortable for them, so they can ask or answer questions without feeling judged or someone may laugh.
