The film documentary of Cowspiracy really created an eye-opener for me while viewing because it reminds me of what I eat everyday. These are common foods that we consume on a daily basis which also affects our life on planet Earth. We live in a world where we think that we are living a healthy and sustainable life, but we are not. The film-maker (Kip Andersen) mentioned that we were living in an industrial age and now we are living in an information age. When we look at our plate, it (plate) represents the planet and whatever food we put on our plate, is it destroying the planet or is it conserving the environment that we are living in?
A large group of students in the United States makeup a large population of English language learners. Students who are considered English language learners undergo many challenges in their education, and without the necessary support and resources from their educators it can make it hard for them to succeed. A teacher plays a significant role in the success of a child, and it is crucial for them to be able to provide the proper education to students whose first language is not English. It is also very important for teachers to understand the challenges that these students are facing. Having empathy towards the students allows for the teacher to create better connections and relationships to better help them.
I am currently teaching at Swainston Middle School in North Las Vegas. Our student population is very diverse, including English Language Learners (ELLs). During this time as a teacher, I have served students with different language needs. It has been my goal to engage ELL students in my lessons as every other student. It is my opinion that as teachers we are all language teachers.
What do you currently teach and where? I am a December graduate of the University of Charleston. I graduated magna cum laude. After graduation I began substituting. I substituted at a variety of schools in Kanawha County in a variety of grades.
Some teenage girls between the ages 13 to 18 do not like talking to their parents about sex or anything that involves sex. They feel that their parents will not be able to trust them or will take their trust away from them. Teenage girls should be allowed to obtain birth control without the permission of their parents. Birth control helps reduce teen pregnancies, gives them responsibilities and choices, and allowed sex education in school. Having to use birth control is not always about teenage girls having sex; it helps a girl to regulate her menstrual period, and can even help with internal health issues such as tumors inside the uterus, ulcers, or ovarian cysts.
Bryce Williams EDUC 250 Jan. 29th, 2017 When I become a teacher, I find it that it is very beneficial to meet the needs of all of your students, While in a classroom I believe that I must always be willing to adapt to any of my students while making sure that I am doing the best that I possibly can to educate them. We as educators owe it to our students to help them keep learning and growing in order to offer many ways that they can be success. It is a personal feeling of mine to always want to see my students be the best that can be, Urie Bronfenbrenner states "Every child needs at least one adult who is irrationally crazy about him or her." (theory, retrieved 2017) This quote of his is one of my favorite quotes due to how every teacher should
On September 14th one of Professor Dresser’s former students visited our Education class to discuss what it is like to be a teacher. Ian Cole is now a teacher at a private school in Yonkers. Ian has taught many subjects including social studies, science, and gym. Also, he has taught grades six to eight over the past two and a half years. He expressed the amount of experience he has had with student behavior, teaching techniques, and student learning methods.
Spending late nights grading, dealing with parents, a teacher’s salary isn’t sufficient for the broad job descriptions they are responsible to meet. Although it takes someone with a loving heart to be a teacher, they are suppose to teach what will become of the future. Therefore wouldn’t they have the most important job? In addition to be a successful teacher, first teachers have to go school themselves. Moreover after comparing South Texas College, Texas State University and University of Rio Grande Valley based on my criteria of tuition cost, location, and strength of program, University of Rio Grande Valley would be my best choice in helping me pursue a career in interdisciplinary studies.
My teaching philosophy is to develop young children into self-thinking, self-controlling, caring, and independent students. I will create a safe environment for each student to learn, explore, and play. I will have an all-inclusive classroom, no matter what their background, ethnicity, and culture. My guiding principles are that students should be encouraged to work toward their potential and appropriate behaviors should be acknowledged and students are expected to treat one another with respect and dignity. Recognizing the importance of forming a partnership with the parents in order to create a positive experience for the students.
Do you remember a teacher who influenced you? What were they like? What made them so amazing? When I was five as many people I started kindergarten. My teacher, Mrs. Spinning, was amazing she taught me so much and we enjoyed it.
From teaching preschoolers in Kindermagic to being an intern at an Intermediate School, teaching has been a big part of my highschool life. Teaching is my favorite thing in the world. I love watching students learn and grow. My role as an educator is to make students feel safe in the classroom and make the learning material fun and creative. In the classroom, I want to promote and incorporate hands-on learning.
As I mentioned previously, I was the first family member to attend college, and while my family was there to support me they really didn’t understand the college process. Mrs. Gaines is a prime example of how a teacher can make a difference in a student’s life, without her help I may not have attended a four year university, and instead I probably would have opted to go a different route. What she did had a lasting impact on my life and I would like to do the same for my students. Whether that means helping a student through the college process, or assisting them with a dilemma they are facing outside of school. I want to pay it forward by using the teaching skills Mrs. Gaines taught me as well as the experiences we had and bring them into my classroom.
This class was interesting as it was the first time I taught about when I would actually be teaching in the school. It became a bit more real when we were discussing what kinds of activists we would do when we are in the classroom and what challenges we might face. To be an effective teacher, there will always be some challenges. One challenge is to be responsive to students feelings and to our own feelings, as students may say things that I might not like and I don't want a classroom full of conflict.
Jonan Holbrook, Janice Carter, and Jesse Robinson are three monumental factors that inspired me to become an educator. Through their own unique approaches to education, each of these teachers have significantly influenced my life and my decision to become a teacher. From reading books inside of a big, red bathtub in kindergarten to writing about the Civil Rights Movement in eighth grade, each of these teachers have provided me with an unmatched level of inspiration and support that has motivated me to accomplish many goals in life, including becoming a teacher. As a shy kindergartener, I had no clue how quickly my attention would become captivated by the charismatic and loving personality of my kindergarten teacher, Jonan Holbrook.
a) I wanted to become a teacher because I strongly believe teaching helps to make a positive difference on the future of children and students. For me, it is a very fulfilling challenge; to help children learn and to grow as people. I have always enjoyed working with children, whether it is for educational purposes or fun recreational activities. I currently volunteer at my local basketball club; I help with the training and coaching of the younger children. It is extremely rewarding is to teach the children new skills in the game of basketball and to watch their faces filled with happiness and joy.
