When you are younger, as well as when you are growing up, you are constantly being asked "What do you want to be when you grow up?" Most of us would say cop, firefighter, princess, etc., but not me. My first choice was to become a doctor but that shortly turned into becoming a teacher. Maybe it was that I admired my teachers so much or because even at such a young age I enjoyed being around a school environment. It has always been my passion to become a teacher, no matter the pay, even if I must move far away from home. I have looked into the courses that are required in order to reach this goal of mine. Education majors must have 120 credits that include, 24 credits of Professional Education Core course, 14 of clinical practice credits, specified Liberal Learning Outcomes, and, depending on the certification area, a variable number of credits in the student's chosen content area(s). Before having the ability to start student teaching the West Virginia Department of Education requires education majors to complete a total of 125 hours of experience in the field. In getting my Special Education certification I have to have a total of 23 credits from the courses. I have thought about minoring in Music Education since I have always enjoyed playing my instruments, but I am still undecided about that and I know that is okay. I would love to be able to do all that I plan on doing, nothing would make me happier, and I know that all I can do is try my best.
