The Pros And Cons Of Genetic Design

Imagine being able to design your child. Make them look and act like how you want them to. This process is called genetic design. Genetic design is when a person changes genes to their desire, whether it be the appearance or personality. People should not be able to design their own children due to the fact that nobody would be different, scientists believe there could be health problems, and the child could gain genetic mutations. The first problem is that no one would be different. Everyone’s thoughts would be more similar if we designed children, so nothing would be able to get done, since everyone would have the same skills and mindsets. An example of how this is important is that some people work with kids, and others work with elders, it is a good thing that people have different skill sets. If everyone was designed to do intellectual work, no one will know how to do physical work. If everyone was a scientist or any other intellectual job, there would be no one to know how to do the physical work. Finally, it would make your child a lab rat. Genetic mutations could cause antibiotic resistance. Scientists are beginning to learn as they research, that if we design the genes of our children, it could lead to antibiotic resistance, which would be very bad. Genetic selection could create new or worse viruses. Humans don’t know much about the current viruses us humans have, so taking the risk to create new and more deadly ones seems very stupid. Why would we take such a big risk on something that we know little about. Genetic selection can also cause health problems to the environment. The genetic engineering could contaminate plants and we don’t know how the environment could be affected. Genetic engineering could cause health problems for humans and the environment, the risk is way too high. It is not worth the risk of destroying the environment just to design your
