How can someone be judged solely on where they are from? As a human it is important that you have the right to live any place you want. People should not classify humans as illegal or legal. What gives these people the right to hold another human’s fate in their hands. I believe that humans should have the right to live where ever they feel is right, and just because you were born in another country that should not stop you from living your life where you please. However, these people that cross the border should be able to obtain the proper paperwork to live in this country, but with today's methods, it is very difficult and time consuming to do so. The parents risk their lives because if they are caught in America, they can possibly be deported and be separated away from their children. Their children, then face a very important decision, whether to stay in America or to go back to their parent’s country. If the child would go back to the parent’s country, they would then not have the official paperwork to stay in that country. The children are at a constant worry everyday whether or not their parents are just going to be back home for dinner that night. This article tells a story about a girl who woke up and her mother was just arrested. the author tells the story of Helen Portugal, the little girl, losing her mother and having to take on the responsibility of raising her two younger brothers and sister. It reads, “At only ten years old I a sad awakening when I woke up, I found that my mother had been arrested...My biggest preoccupation was my two little brothers and sister...She went on to explain how as the eldest sister, she took on the responsibility of caring for her younger siblings”(671). This shows that because of these strict immigration laws it breaks up family. It makes young children have to mature very quickly just to help their siblings. These people lose their childhood, they lose their happiness, and they lose their parents all at once. However if it is made easier to enter this country with all of the official paperwork, then these children could have their lives given back to them. The majority of children of immigrants are legal in this country but their is still a great number of children that are not legal. If the children were to get deported with their family they would be sent back to a place where they do not know the language, and it would lead to a bitter life. Children deserve to be happy and live
