Many colleges today teach the necessary items students need to be successful in the career of their choice, but, did you know that not every college has an attractive mission statement. Some colleges focus only on their religion, others don’t include how they can possible help their students succeed or how their professors know the information they need to be aware of to lecture. How would you feel if the college of your choice didn’t have anything to show hope for success or that they force their religious beliefs on you? Olive, NC. They service on average 4,000 students. They say that, “The University of Mount Olive is a Christian faith-based, values-centered private institution rooted in the liberal arts tradition. We serve our students, our founding church, and our communities.” UMO is a religious University and so they don’t follow the any certain criteria when running the college or creating mission statements as they only provide their services and products. They also only use logos in that they tell you what they focus on and on what belief system they follow as a Christian private college. James Rajasekar said in his article on page 137 is that, “Those components were product/service, distinctive competence, concern for survival/growth, customers and geographic market, philosophy, public image, technology and employees’ components in their statements.” This meaning that a good mission statement talks about their services, capably to so what’s required, plan to grow and stay afloat, market, students, philosophy, tech uses and their professors. Earlier on page 133 he says “The mission statement provides a standard for allocating resources, facilitates the transition of objectives into a work structure, and specifies unanimous organizational purposes that are translated into objectives for standard performance. Strategic management literature has emphasized the mission statement because of its ability to direct organizations to effective organizational performance.” Mission statements include resources, how lessons mesh with teaching styles and organization is structured to standards.
