Hello! Welcome to the Jr. Honors Academy! We are so excited for an amazing year! My name is Crista Ponder, and I will be serving as the Jr. Honors Academy sponsor. I am the 8th-grade Science and Social Studies Teacher at Riverdale.
To become a member of the highly esteemed National Honors Society would mean that I have achieved my goal of being an archetype student for North Penn High School. To be blunt, I had stressed over applying for NHS for quite a while, but it was not until mid-way through the application process in which I realized my life is based around the qualities that the National Honor Society holds in high value. I have been yearning to be a part of this remarkable organization since I graduated my freshman year as an officer in NJHS. Since then, my time has been filled with countless volunteering and involvement in extracurricular activities. I am very passionate about what I become invested into, and I work at achieving my goals to the fullest.
Students that have been a part of National Honor Society at Robert Vela High School have become outstanding individuals and have shown selflessness and a desire to aid their community in any way possible. It is because of this that it would be an honor to follow in the footsteps of those before me and continue to do service that will help my community and my school. National Honor Society is an organization that I feel will really help me to continue to develop my character, leadership skills, and assist in my overall growth as an honorable young adult. Being a part of NHS will open doors that will allow me to reach my highest potential while becoming a better and more charitable person. I am a dedicated and hardworking student and I strive to be my best everyday.
Personal Statement One positive quality about me is that I love to help other people. Throughout my life, I have been cultivating my skills to help everybody I see. I have always felt the need to help make the world better even if it takes an eternity to do so. One of the few instances I can remember where I was being helpful was when I had the opportunity to tutor young students in elementary and middle school. Another situation that comes to mind is when I took part in martial arts.
I have been very fortunate to attend a very competitive high school that has challenged me both academically and creatively. Hudson High School is a highly ranked high school in Ohio and they set expectations very high for their students. All of my teachers at each grade level have pushed me to strive for more and not to stay in my comfort zone. In eighth grade, I sat down and drafted my entire high school class schedule where I set academic goals, personal accomplishments, and musical achievements that would make me a well-rounded musician. I had decided I wanted to be a teacher
Melbourne High School is a school that creates leaders in contemporary society using knowledge and wisdom as the basis of modern decision making. What I hope to gain through my experience at Melbourne High School is ‘More than just Marks’, and I believe that Melbourne High School can provide me with this. I know that Melbourne High School can help me develop my academic, intellectual, sporting and cultural needs, with the great teachers and facilities that the school provides. I am a highly motivated and responsible student, and I love supporting my peers when they are in need of my help.
This is an opportunity I am not missing. There are many possibilities with being on the yearbook staff, being a “yearbook-ee”. From learning how a camera works to expressing creativity. I hope to help make this yearbook spectacular.
My inner self is slowly getting more and more interested in graphic design and with the possibility of yearbook helping me achieve this passion, I am motivated to become a yearbooker and learn from those around
I have already taken Intro to Journalism class where I learned to properly write for journalism. There were so many “rules” to follow, but I am confident that I have learned it. By Junior year I will also have completed the layout and design class. It has only been 3 weeks the Layout class, but I have already learned so many new things and have made some creative work. I am a very hard worker and always complete my homework on time.
Photography has been around since the 1800’s and has become more popular over the years. New equipment being created and distributed has caught many eyes. As photography becomes more popular, young individuals seek a way to be introduced to it. Almost every school creates a yearbook every year and to do so, a skillful class is needed. Yearbook is the best class for amateur photographers to take to learn basic photography skills.
Ever since I was an infant, I have held a special interest in music. This love for music has strengthened over the years; and in sixth grade, it became plain to me that I would be a musician. However, I have always held somewhat of an affinity for writing. I am the second child of two, but my sister is twenty-five years older than I, and I was raised as an only child would be. Despite this, I never felt lonely, as my father worked at home
When I first applied for yearbook in 7th grade, I had expected to be walking around the school and taking pictures of classes for the yearbook, like I've seen other students do. Then use those pictures along with others from events and class/sports photos in the yearbook. Then include text describing what is happening in the photos placed on that page. What I expected to do in yearbook was completely different from reality.
My yearbook experience was pretty great. I thought it was just gonna be getting pictures and putting them in a yearbook, but at some time I wanted to actually put feeling into the yearbook, I started putting quotes and inspirational paragraphs because I wanted to make the yearbook good, My first year so they’ll want me to do it again. Also, I think I did a pretty good job on my work. I made things that you would look at and actually relate to so everyone will feel special I did everything I could to make this yearbook a little emotional it can make you happy or sad. I will expect to see at least one person ecstatic with our efforts of making a perfect yearbook, I will expect to see at least one person to love my page, Also I will expect to see someone who doesn’t talk to start being more of a talker, I know it’s a long shot
