Arguments Against Standardized Testing

¨If my future were determined just by my performance on a standardized test, I wouldn't be here. I guarantee you that.¨ First, lady Michelle Obama once said. Standardized testing is a requirement throughout the United States, and in my opinion it should not. Standardized tests do not show a students actual achievements and the success of the schools. School boards should abandon Standardized testing.
Standardized testing has been shown with research that tests demonstrate that there is no benefit to the students and don't show actual academic performance. Phillip Harris wrote in ¨Standardized Tests Do Not Effectively Measure Student Achievement¨ his argument of the need to abandon the use of standardized tests. “What's more, the scores don't provide very much useful information for evaluating a student's achievement, a teacher's competency, or the success of a particular school or program.” This demonstrates that tests like STAAR, and other tests similar to that, don’t provide the information needed to evaluate a schools performance. 70% of …show more content…
