Chi Alpha Mission Statement

"We reconcile students to Christ, equipping them through Spirt-filled communities of prayer, worship, fellowship, discipleship and mission to transform the university, the marketplace, and the world." This is the mission statement of the one organization that I knew before I started college that I wanted to be a part of throughout my KU journey. This organization has been my home away from home, my sanctuary, and my family. It has helped me grow tremendously both spiritually and in maturity in the short time I have been at KU. Chi Alpha is a campus ministry comprised of appointed leaders and college age students. We meet as a large group every other week and have small groups every week. When we meet as a large group, there are around 20 students in attendance. We eat dinner, talk, and play games. There is a lot of laughter, inside jokes, and sometimes crying. During small groups, we dive deeper into our relationships with Christ and have intellectual discussions.
We also have one-on-one time with the leader of our same sex to discuss situations in private or to grow more individually. During this time, we set goals with different deadlines and discuss how we can achieve these goals. Our leaders also celebrate with us when these goals are met or a step is made towards achieving a long term goal. Having leaders who are dedicated to helping their students succeed while in college helps contribute to the group's success and the students' well-beings.
I participate in other KU organizations that consist of a larger number of people than Chi Alpha, but the smaller number contributes to the community aspect of the organization. Because of the smaller number, the leaders are able to focus more on individual students and their needs. I have also met most of my good friends at KU through Chi Alpha. With a smaller number of people, it is easier to get to know and become closer to everyone in the group.
