What have you thought about standardized tests in the past? Do you think that taking these tests is a good thing? Many people believe that taking standardized tests is a great experience for when the students are older and helps parents know how their child is doing compared to kids locally and across the city, state, and nation. On the other hand, people have different opinions on taking standardized tests. They state that teachers are too focused on teaching the students what is going to be on the test that they can’t learn things that will be used in the real world. The tests also have too much pressure on the kids to raise up their scores. I would say that I agree with those people. Tests don’t show how intelligent the child really is, there is some diversity bias, and tests are making students really stressed out. …show more content…

In “Pros and Cons of Standardized tests,” it says,”Many would argue that teacher and student performance should be evaluated on growth over the course of the year instead of one single test performance.”This is basically saying that a child can be intelligent, but not a very great test-taker. You can’t really give them one difficult test and with that score measure how smart the child is. Here is a little example: A child has a test one day. They don’t feel so good, maybe a little headache. They are very smart, but now they can’t really focus because their head hurts. They take the test and didn’t understand half of what the questions were asking. A couple months later his mother looks at his test scores and sees that they are pretty low scores for the child’s academic level. Honestly, in this scenario, I don’t think that the mother should be worried about the score because it is one test. It doesn’t really measure the child’s knowledge over the course of the year. The kid may be very intelligent, but not the best
