Education is the most prized possession an individual can obtain. Education is more than just literacy skills, it is about helping individuals realize their own potential, reach their own knowledge and well-being. Passing through the education system in my younger years has influenced me to be the person I am today, as well as strive to have a career in the teaching field. During my sophomore year in high school, I decided to take a leap of faith and switch my major from public health to education. Educators need to learn how to engage the environment in a positive way to reach all types of learners. Within this environment teachers need to take careful consideration when teaching, to ensure that educators reach the variety of different learning styles and disabilities, and incorporate these ideas into the lesson. Students are going to learn best in an atmosphere where they are engaged with not only the lesson but with the educator and other learners. By engaging students in a variety of ways, I believe teachers can better reach the students on an intellectual level and have an easier time reaching potentially hard to reach students. I believe that communication is key to making a successful classroom atmosphere and environment. By communicating expectations, students are then aware of what the teacher expects of them both intellectually as well as behaviorally. These expectations should be realistic and achievable for every student and each student should be held at the same level of expectations. Teachers should (realistically) push their students academically and hold them to higher standards if the students present the eagerness for a greater challenge. Lastly, I believe that teachers are responsible for supporting their students. The teaching field is a large support system that requires team work from both within and outside the school system. By supporting the students, communicating, and providing a stimulating learning environment the basic needs of the developing child are being met in some shape or
