Educational Philosophy Statement

My lifetime goal is to be an elementary teacher so that I can leave an important impact on our nation’s future. In my opinion teachers do more than just teach, and their impact goes beyond the classroom and have an important impact on what they grow up to be. My teachers from my adolescent days served as role models for my future and I want to have that same effect on the students that I teach in the future.
I grew up with ADHD. My parent’s believed that medicating me wasn’t my best option so I had work hard for everything that I have earned. This disease made it hard for me to cope with the stresses of school but I learned to manage it so that I don’t fall behind. When I work with kids it’s my main goal to see them to see them succeed. I had to work long hours to make ends meet and that took a toll on my academics. The one thing that influenced me to be an educator was my jobs in childcare. First I started off as a babysitter for family friends and at church then as I got older I worked my way up to working for more serious forms of childcare. After I graduated high school I worked for a small daycare called Tree House Kids and it was horrible place to work at. For a full year the highest they ever payed me was 7.25 and their business was solely focused on the amount of money they could make off each kid instead of being invested in their general wellbeing. When I couldn’t take it anymore I decided it was time to move on to a more respected daycare. The next Daycare really opened my eyes to what education should really be about. They worked one on one with kids and kept it small so that every child could have the opportunity to grow instead of being treated as a number. The drastic difference between childcare showed me that kids need that one on one attention to really prosper in their environment and overcome any challenges that they might
