Having the opportunity to aspire to higher education is a luxury in this country, which is why if you are willing to become a professional you should aim to be the best version that you can be. Through the communication disorders certificate program, I have had the honor of being taught by high-quality professors that are both experienced and passionate about their careers. To be shaped by these professors and staff at Florida International University is an incredible opportunity, for which I hope to be nothing short of an asset in return. Psychology gave me the opportunity to understand that people are genuinely good although circumstances change us, and we must learn to take control. It allowed me to learn how complex the brain is while exploring countless research papers. It paved the way for me to practice being a woman of science without forgetting that first I am a woman of faith.
Linguistics, on the other hand, taught me the beauty in accents and how dialects are equally important as languages and should be preserved. My minor in linguistics showed me that although phonetics can be challenging, it can be equally rewarding. The best opportunity that my minor gave me was the curiosity of shadowing and volunteering for a speech-language pathologist during my first year as an undergraduate student.
