I am writing to express my interest in the Master of Arts (MA) Program in Communication Studies at University of Calgary. I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from Daystar University Kenya, having graduated with a GPA of 3.4. Through MA in Communication Studies at University of Calgary, I want to combine professional experience, skills and passion as a communications solutions provider with the goal of eventually becoming a lecturer or a communications specialist for an international nonprofit, multinational firm or government agency. Prior to this, I worked in film and TV production for a number of years and this gave me quite an experience on how TV production operates in Kenya. In 2010 I had a unique opportunity to work for Innscor Kenya Limited as a Social Media Manager and had the first training in Social Media Management. Online Media was first being a new phenomenon in Kenya and was fast changing, companies were flocking to social media to create awareness and get a share of the Social Media space. Having relationships with colleagues that lead to other opportunities. My social capital and the ability to build a network of professional relationships are part of the reason I am where I am today, this is a significant asset to my portfolio. However, I will grow further if I invest more in my education, if my vision of becoming a lecturer and specialist in communication should be achieved.
