Leadership Statement My personal leadership philosophy has been strengthened to reveal the leadership is a dynamic and spirited process, instead of a static and traditional process following a leader-follower role. In the leader-follower role is was recognized that decisions come from the leader and should be followed by the followers. In this scenario, I believe those who are known as the followers are ultimately left out of the decision-making process, which in regards limits their own perspectives, experiences and values. Whereas, in the dynamic and spirited process, all persons can be viewed as leaders who active participants in the decision-making process with the option of reflecting their own core values. Leadership involves authentic individuals working to create actual and indisputable change in their communities, whereas these decisions are aligned with an individual’s core values. Leadership ultimately fails when it takes the form of leader-followers or leader who makes the entirety of decisions. As an authentic leader my leadership philosophy is aligned with my core strengths of discipline, belief, significance and intellection. In life, my leadership philosophy can be carried out when I leave something better than the way I found it. One theme that will most entirely play a role in my leadership style would be belief, in realizing that I can only be a servant leader when I uphold my core values in life and ensure they are represented in the decisions I make. Consequentially, there is no individual identity that a person possesses that makes them of an individual or person. Two lessons that I would want my residents to learn would be that we can learn more from differences than we learn from similarities. That being the case, we should not tolerate the differences but accept these differences to learn from their experiences and views. Secondly, I would want my resident to learn their individual identities throughout their first year in college. They should strive to be the person they want to be and the person that their values and action reflect. With my residents next year, I would like to be open with them of who I really am, and I hope they can share who there are with myself and their floormates. The only way we can talk about diversity, is through open communication and sharing of who we really are with
