As a child I always had a passion for cooking. I eagerly watched my Mom cook dinner and hoped she would let me help. This desire to be in the kitchen led me to always answer the age old question of: “What do you want to grow up to be?” with the answer: “Chef.” However, as I grew older my passions expanded. I found a love for science, mainly chemistry and biology. In high school everyone seemed to know what their major in college would be and everyone had a plan, except for me. This was until I heard about the field of Food Science. It combined both of my passions. I finally found a field of study that I could explore enjoyably.
Now that I have found my passion, I am able to focus on my career goals. I plan on going to graduate school to obtain

After my first year at Rutgers University I achieved a 3.903 GPA and was recognized by the Food Science department for my academic achievement and extracurricular involvement with the Bruce B Wasserman award. I am driven and will take advantage of every opportunity that presents itself, including internships, research opportunities, and scholarship opportunities that will allow me to continue excelling in the field of Food Science. This award would give me the ability to chase after every opportunity I can and would allow me to take advantage of the many prospects that Rutgers has to offer. This scholarship is another possible opportunity and could lead to more than this award. Candy Technology is another field of Food Science I have yet to explore. I have always loved candy and a career devoted to the science and technology of candy would be fascinating, and maybe even the career for me. I recently took an elective class at Rutgers called Kitchen Chemistry and Food Physics where I learned the chemical structures of chocolate and hard candy and discussed their properties. That class opened another door for a career possibility. All in all, Food Science has been a passion of mine for a few years now and my first two semesters at Rutgers University have solidified for me that I chose the right field and I hope this award, if granted it, will allow me to continue exploring the vast field of Food
