Eagerness to learn, attention to details, and willingness to put in required effort and time, all qualities I wish to continue to practice as a student in AP English 12. As a student of organization and willingness to participate in classroom discussions and interactions, I believe those attributes of me as a student set me up for success in this class. My enthusiasm in learning has been a leading factor in my decision to apply for this rigorous course my senior year. While there are other options available this is the course best suited for me due to my attention to details and readiness to dedicate time and effort into this class. As an AP English student I am mainly interested in continuing to practice and develop reading and writing skills
I always had an interest in learning about different sciences in High School, and knew I wanted to choose a career where I could help people. However, it was not until I was in my senior year, when my father fell sick, I realized my true interest was in medicine and the human body. The doctors would come into his hospital room, explaining what tests they were doing and what medications they were going to give him. My curiosity lead me to research the illnesses he was being tested for; forms of vasculitis. It was not until after numerous different tests and a lung biopsy that my father was diagnosed with the rare form of vasculitis, Churg-Strauss Syndrome.

Personal Statement I come from a large family with relatives from a little ranch in Chihuahua, Mexico. Many of which have never made it past grade school. Mainly due to their mother, my grandma, she had fallen very ill. Due to her condition and lack of money my aunts and uncles dropped out of school to work and help pay for her medication and medical expenses. The older siblings had to take care of the younger siblings.
Ever since I was an infant, I have held a special interest in music. This love for music has strengthened over the years; and in sixth grade, it became plain to me that I would be a musician. However, I have always held somewhat of an affinity for writing. I am the second child of two, but my sister is twenty-five years older than I, and I was raised as an only child would be. Despite this, I never felt lonely, as my father worked at home
Sometimes I still lie awake at night thinking about the day one of my kindergarten students told me his mother helped his uncle bury the under-aged girl he’d murdered. It’s absurd how you can hear this story on the news and assume nothing of it after a few minutes, but when a five-year-old is crying to you because his mother is now in jail, it will never be the same for you. At the age of 17, I graduated from high school and by 20 years old, I graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Bachelor’s of Science in Communication Disorders. Soon after, I’ve worked in a child care facility that specializes in early childhood speech and language development as a speech therapist assistant called Skyline Academy and as a paraprofessional

Reflecting on my educational and practical experiences, I appreciate the infinite influence that teachers have on children. I realise that children will take the skills and knowledge learnt in the classroom and use it throughout their lives. I know a teacher has to deal with many daily pressures and challenges, in the classroom. However, I feel I require the skills needed to deal with these challenges. As a teacher I hope not only to be an educator but a positive role model, whom the children can look up to and trust.
In elementary school, the concluding bell signals an exodus from learning that my peers desperately anticipate. However, I did not resemble the typical student as I dreaded the end of the school day because it indicated the commencement of labor at my parents’ restaurant. While my classmates cherished the evening by relaxing in the blissful tranquility of rural Indiana, I would arrive from school to assist my parents by preparing food or taking orders from customers too weary to cook dinner themselves. Each evening I would spot my classmates engaging in an epic struggle of hide and seek while I was imprisoned in the restaurant to support the family venture. Although my family possessed a business, our unstable economic situation constantly
The single largest impact that any ailment has had on my life in undoubtedly the cancer my aunt suffered from. To see another human being in so much pain was heart wrenching. The manner in which the hospital staff treated my aunt especially during chemotherapy left an indelible imprint upon me. The professionalism, dedication and selflessness shown by all staff members to curtail suffering and bring her relief brought about a deep sense of admiration for the medical profession and I knew I wanted to be a doctor.
The more I don’t know, the more I know. The more I realize I don’t understand, the more I discover my desire to know more about psychology. My interest in educational psychology was triggered by my first experience in changing schools.
