I always had an interest in how the world works. When I was young, taking apart and building objects have been a hobby of mine. I enjoy using my knowledge and the skills I have acquired in school to solve real-world problems. My interest in the field of mathematics and applied science had evolved throughout my time in school, and it has become one of the reasons why I wanted to pursue an undergraduate degree in mechanical engineering. The field of engineering is no doubt in-demand, not only in the United States, but also anywhere in the world because they are a valuable asset to the workforce in any type of industry. If it were not for engineers, the advancement in technology would not be as distinguished as it is today. Moreover, engineers …show more content…

I plan to achieve this goal through the internship opportunities the research district at Richland has to offer. Having an internship will enable me to apply my expertise related to the concepts and principles of engineering as I expand the knowledge I could potentially gain from exposure to an innovative work environment to enhance educational experiences. The other benefit of working with engineers and scientists at companies like Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL) is being able to improve critical thinking, data analysis and evaluation, and solving complex problems in an applied technology setting. Right now, my main focus in school is to have all A's with a cumulative GPA of greater than 3.5 out of a 4.0 scale and graduate as a cum laude. I plan to expand my network through extracurricular activities, volunteer opportunities, and knowing my professors intimately. I am currently a member of American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) Student Chapter at Washington State University Tri-Cities and plan to become a chair of the organization for the next school year. I also volunteer at an after-school program at the Family Learning Center in Kennewick where I serve as a mentor to refugee children who needs additional help in their Math, Physics, and English classes. There is no greater satisfaction knowing that these kids will have a better understanding of STEM careers through my
