Stop! Whatever you are doing and listen up! Let’s stop texting and driving. Have you ever texted someone even though you knew they were driving? Well don’t anymore. There are so many stories about how people were texting and driving and they looked away for 5 seconds and everything changed. Texting and driving is a terrible habit that we all need to break. A lot of people do not understand the risks that they are taking while doing it. Here is the current situation. Texting while driving came out of nowhere more than a decade ago(“Texting and driving a worse hazard than drunk driving.”). It was not very common until cell phones became very popular. Now everyone has to stay in touch with texting. This makes people so attached to their phone, they forget when it is and isn’t a good time to use them. There are 180 million US drivers and 31% are texting while driving(“Cell Phone use while driving statistics.”). That is a high percentage, especially for adults. Most of the time they are texting in front of their kids too. Which comes down to the teens. Teens have 11% of drivers aged from 18-20 crashed and admitted to texting and driving when they crashed(“The Risks of Texting while Driving.”). This to me is baffling. But where do you think they learned it from. Both groups of people are guilty, but adults are yelling at teens for texting, but who does it come back to? One thing to add to it would be when teens have their permits. They have to practice driving perfect and practice being aware of everything that is around them. They are not practicing how to use their phone while driving. When teens get their license, they feel like they have this new sense of freedom and feel like they can do whatever they want to.
