Teaching Philosophy Statement

The number one reason I want to teach is to develop relationships with and have an impact on young people. My high school experience changed my life. My teachers and coaches made a great impact on the way that I learned, as well as the character that I developed. I want to be able to impact young people in this same way as a teacher. Teaching, in my opinion, is one of the few careers that is truly a vocation. There is a great deal of sacrifice that goes along with becoming a teacher. However, the rewards of the classroom experience make up for those sacrifices many fold. As a teacher, I want to be able to maximize the potential of all of my students. Beyond any of the specifics of my subject, I want to be able to show students what they are truly capable of. I want to provide a dynamic learning environment for my students that shows learning can be an exceptionally rewarding endeavor. If I am able to show student the value in a work ethic and the learning process, I will have fulfilled my goals as a teacher.

Good teachers change to their students. Rather, a good teacher will be able to adapt to his or her students’ learning styles. This is why relationships are so important in education. If a teacher is able to truly know who their student is, they will be able to tailor their teachings style to their students, specifically. Good teachers understand when things are not working, and change to make their lessons more effective.
