Why I Chose To Study Athens State University

I decided to enroll at Athens State University. I had enough credits from Auburn University to start at Athens State. I knew they had flexible class schedules that would coordinate with my work schedule. Once I started taking courses I soon realized what I was studying was very beneficial to the job I had. I realized it was because of the experience I gained from my most recent position. The experience with the new knowledge was helping it all connect. The information I gained from my classes helped me excel in my field. I enrolled in computer science, logistic, static, and business classes. The computer science classes updated my knowledge on the latest computer programs that most people use at their jobs. Excel is a great example of this. …show more content…

Something I never thought I would be able to do. Because of my success at Athens State, I wanted to take courses that would put my outside of my comfort zone, but be beneficial to my field. My logistic classes taught me general knowledge about the field that helped expand my ideas and outlook in this area. Before, I knew general supply chain methods and ideas, but I did not know the correct terms for them. I was not always confident speaking in meetings. I felt like people could tell I wasn’t using the correct terminology. I now have more confidence when I bring up terms in meetings and speaking with colleagues. I also have greater knowledge of different logistics methods and tactics. I also applied these concepts to areas at my job. Since taking these courses, I improved inventory carrying costs and improved customer contracts. The business classes helped me bring insight and structure to my business. I had a greater understanding of motivational tools for my employees, a better structure for running my business, and better understanding of how to conduct business with my customers. Like I said earlier, a job can only supply so much training. Usually the training is also geared towards that specific business. It is tailored to help you become more efficient for the company you currently work for. The trainings can be used as a motivational tool for employees. Many employees feel a higher moral and refreshed after trainings. Trainings help employees build on existing knowledge and give fresh new ideas to help run a successful business. The same goes for continued education at a university. Employees can get stuck in a rut at work; doing the same thing over and over can lead to mediocrity. People also are scared to take risks and move forward if they don’t feel confident in their abilities. Employers are looking for employees that can bring fresh new ideas to their company. This is why people with continued education are sought after. It gives people a competitive edge over other people in the field. Potential employers are going to pick a person that shows they are willing to expand their knowledge. It shows a drive to be the best and knowledgeable about what they do. With new technology and information coming out daily, people have to keep advancing with it. When I first started college back in 2005 the concept of databases technology was not anywhere near the level it is today. Excel spreadsheets were the main way businesses organized and sorted data.
