Classroom Management

I imagine that an effective strategy of classroom management is to know the students by name and their personality traits. Students will respect the teacher knowing that the teacher has taken time to learn about each of them. With respect and trust, the students and the teacher can forge a well-rounded teacher student relationship.

I also feel that students will feel comfortable and relaxed in an environment that they feel safe in. The classroom should be comfortable and inviting. On display are student’s art works from years past and art works that students can relate to. This will keep students on task and for them to know what is required. This will also lead to positive behavior to which needs rewarding. Student seeing the teacher recognizing their classmates’ positive behavior and being rewarded, will bring forth more positive outcomes in the classroom.

Now the negative behavior should be dealt with a discreetly and swiftly. I believe the proximity by separation is only needed when other students are in danger. If it is a studio day I will take the student aside and ask to what that problem was. If it is a lecture day, then I would hold the student after class to talk to them.

The rules I would have in my classroom

- Act Responsibly:
Come to class on time and prepared to work. Make sure you have the supplies that you need for class. Follow directions and school rules, clean up after yourself. Only leave classroom with permission. Do not be wasteful of materials. We are on a strict budget.

- Respectful:
Show respect for others. We want to be listen to, so when it’s not our turn to speak we are quiet and listen to other until it’s our turn.
