Is obesity becoming an enormous problem in the United States? I believe, obesity is starting to become a threat towards the United States. Obesity is a disorder that involves excessive body weight and it increases the risk of health problems. According to CNN, “One-third of the world is overweight, with United States leading the way.” Obesity is an important matter; it is starting to become more common throughout the years. There’s innumerable of people who are starting to face obesity, but they aren’t receiving the help they need till the situation starts to exacerbate. Obesity can commerce at a very young age. Many children in our country are starting to face obesity, which is setting them up for serious health problems in their life. Jaime Oliver, a chef, stated, “The adults that had children for the last four generations have a shorter life span of their own because of our society today.” Children are starting to gain weight due to spending their time indoors by watching television, with technology, playing video games, and consuming sugary and fatty foods. Based on the body mass index of the person it depends how much the cost would be on healthcare, medical claims, and sick days. An author from FiscalTimes, said, “adults who are obese spend more than forty-two percent more on health care costs than adults who are at an average weight. Per capita health care costs for extremely or morbidly obese adults with a body mass index greater than forty are eighty-one percent higher than any healthy weight adult.” The author also added, “In 2000, the estimate costs of obesity was eleven billion dollars, which equaled up to around ninety-two thousand per person.” The cost of obesity is rising throughout the years; it’s starting to become ridiculous.
