Animal Testing It is estimated that more than 100 million animals are used in testing each year (Evans). Animals that are being tested on in labs are being harmed and even killed. A lot of companies, such as cosmetic companies, test their products on animals before selling it the the public. Doctors also practice techniques for surgery on animals before the patient. Animal testing can give inaccurate results. Animal testing is cruel and can be inaccurate, so alternatives like using human simulators, volunteers, and in vitro testing should be used (Britannica). The consumers are affected because if the results the test on an animal gave was inaccurate it will affect the human who uses it. If consumers are firmly against animal cruelty hey may boycott the product, which affects the company and product sellers. To start off, many forests do not allow hunters to kill animals for products, such as clothing. Stricter laws are also being set in place (Britannica). Along with stricter laws being set in place, animal activists have been fighting harder (Britannica). There is also a couple acts that are currently set in place to prevent animal testing. For example, the Animal Welfare Act and the Cruelty to Animals Act (aldf.org). The Animal Welfare Act provides little protection for 5% of animals tested on, and does not protect the other 95% of animals tested on (aldf.org). The Cruelty to Animals Act on the other hand states, ¨The law covered only vertebrate animals (mammals, birds, reptiles, fish, and amphibians), with more restrictive provisions on the use of donkeys, horses, mules, dogs, and cats. The law required all experimenters to have permits, and it established guidelines for the kinds of experiments and the way they were performed.¨ (aldf.org).
